A native of Spain, Rosa Tapia holds a doctorate in Spanish Literature from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Arts in Spanish and Foreign Language Education from the University of Delaware, and a Licenciatura in English Philology from the University of Granada, Spain. Tapia is a tenured associate professor of Spanish at Lawrence University, where she teaches courses in Spanish and Latin American culture, literature and film. She received the Young Teacher Award in 2005 and the University Award for Excellence in Advising in 2014.
In collaboration with Cecilia Herrera, Tapia organizes the Lawrence University Latin American and Spanish Film Festival. LULASFF features recent award-winning titles, Q&A’s with international directors, actors and producers (Juan Andrés Arango, Rubén Mendoza, Adrián Saba, Moisés Sepúlveda, Solveig Hoojesteijn, Brionne Davis, Arí Maniel Cruz, Carla Cavina, etc.) and talks by renowned intellectuals (Walter Mignolo, Paul Julian Smith, Sophia McClennen and Javier Guerrero).
In 2016, Tapia became Faculty Director of Advising at Lawrence University and joined the College Board’s national Development Committee for the AP Spanish Language & Culture Exam.
